New Life Church | Abbotsford, BC | MissionsNew Life is committed to making local, regional and global missions an integral part of our church. Whether your mission field is your home, your work, the homeless and less fortunate in our city, or further abroad to the far corners of the world, we want to encourage everyone to actively participate in missions.

We are proud to sponsor a number of mission opportunities, including trips, projects and partnerships. Projects are specific needs that receive one time financial support, while partnerships are ongoing, relationship-based endeavours. New Life also supports several long-term and short-term missionaries who serve around the world with various organizations.

For those of you planning a mission trip in the near future, we ask that you download and submit an application form to the mission team no less than 3 months before your departure date, especially if you require financial assistance. Let us know how we can partner with you and support you. There is an additional form for families looking to do missions together and a copy of the mission policy that governs our team and our church focus. Please contact the mission team for more information: missions@newlifecrc.ca.

History of the Mission Team and our Mandate:

New Life Church | Abbotsford, BC | MissionsThe mission team began in 2005, born of a desire to encourage missions, support missionaries, and to help everyone focus on serving in God’s kingdom in some capacity. After much passionate debate, laugher and prayer, we made the following our objectives:
  • Celebrate the Goodness of God - Through God‘s great Providence that members commissioned for mission work are given financial support that match up with their desire to touch lives with the transforming love of Jesus Christ.
  • Connect with the Family of God - Be in partnership with other agencies in the development of local, regional and global Mission Program with God’s given resources for the development of His Kingdom.
  • Grow in the Likeness of God - Pray for God‘s guiding Hand in sending long-term and short-term missionaries to the Harvest field.
  • Serve with the Kindness of God - Create opportunities for all church members to participate in missions according to the Gifts that God has given them, particularly to those in need.
  • Share the Story of God – That the Love and Grace of our Father may be evident to all we contact through missions, whether by word or by deed.
We took our Biblical mandate from the following passages:
  • The Lord has called us to share the good news of his love and grace to all nations, and has given us the power and authority to do so. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)
  • The Lord has directed us to help those who are hurting, hungry and needy. (Psalm 82:3-4; Jeremiah 22:16; Proverbs 29:7)
  • We will be blessed by helping those who need our help, both physically and spiritually. (Isaiah 58:10; Luke 14:13-14)
New Life Church | Abbotsford, BC | MissionsAdditionally, in the fall of 2007, the Mission Team was mandated to seek options for local, regional and global partnerships. New Life had just undertaken a building expansion project and we committed to setting aside a tithe (10%) of all the funds raised for missions work. We used the following guidelines to help us establish some very exciting partnerships:

  1. Partnership – to do something “with” a community, not “for” them;
  2. Relationship – to develop a broad-based relationship that could involve all members of New Life in various ways, regardless their age;
  3. Sustainability – to be involved for the long-term, and as such, we need to be able to match needs with our own abilities and commitments;
  4. Legally – to work with established, reputable charitable organizations registered in Canada. Their experience would help bridge the relationship; and
  5. Denominationally – to select at least one project in partnership with our own denominational agencies (i.e. CRWM, CRWRC).
New Life’s mission team is currently comprised of the following members: Tony DeWaal, Shane Driessen, Rita Bot, John Fictorie, Bob Burkinshaw, Pastor Nathan Elgersma, Justin Dudney and Yvonne Onderwater. Each of these people has a personal heart for missions as well as a corporate desire to see all New Life members involved in missions for the glory of God’s kingdom.

Many of our partners, associate organizations and missionaries send regular updates. Please check out the various organizations, partnership and project reports, links to a variety of newsletters and the videos from previous trips by clicking on the links found throughout the missions web pages. Enjoy.
