MISSIONARY Partnerships

New Life Church | Abbotsford, BC | MissionsLAURE, HONDURAS
Neuva Vida Church of Laure, Honduras is one of three churches in the town of 2000 people. New Life is linking with this church and community as a global partner in mission. The bridging agency that connects the two churches is The Christian Reformed World Relief Committee.

Community Background (from a proposal developed by Dicaonia Nacional of Honduras)
Laure belongs to the municipality of San Lorenzo, department (province) of Valle, it’s located 8 kilometers from San Lorenzo and close to the Pan-American road that leads to Nicaragua and El Salvador. Currently the community has a population of 2010 inhabitants in 466 houses. The community has some basic services such as: water, electricity, two kindergartens, primary school, health center, and some telephone lines. On the organizational part Laure has a community board, water system board, parent’s organization, sport club, credit unions, women’s club and an emergency committee. On the spiritual side Laure has 3 churches: 2 of them evangelical (Christian Reformed Church and Central American) and one catholic.

The main sources of income are related to agriculture, mostly for consumption and very little to sell out. Many people from the community work on minimal wages on either shrimp farms or a salt factory close by. Only a few people in the community own land. This means other people must rent a plot of land to raise crops. Various crops are grown, including corn, beans, and watermelon. Crops are often affected by bad rainy seasons and/or flooding.

New Life is eager to partner with Neuva Vida Church and with Laure, Honduras to build a relationship of mutual encouragement and blessing. With that partnership the community of Laure hopes to improve health and hygiene among community children and members. Specifically they are eager to improve their water supply, their housing (with cement floors and latrines) and with community training to prevent drug abuse among young people.

New Life Church | Abbotsford, BC | MissionsJoshua house
We strongly believe that Joshua House, through the hands of Richard and Angie Korkowski, is doing a fantastic job to grow God’s Kingdom right here in Abbotsford. We therefore have formed a New Life support team for them and are now ready to ask for your help. Joshua House currently is made up of four houses, all in Abbotsford. The first, called the Junior House, accommodates men fresh in recovery. Here Richard helps them to become still before God and find Him through Bible study and counselling while confronting their addictions. The next two houses, called the Middle Houses, accommodate men who have recovered sufficiently to start part-time employment. The fourth or Senior House is filled with men who have started full-time employment, but who still need the support offered by Joshua House before they can go back to their communities. New Life Church | Abbotsford, BC | MissionsESPERANZA MINISTRY
Esperanza is a ministry centre to First Nations people on the remote west coast of Vancouver Island and New Life’s regional partner in mission. For several years New Life Church has sent a group to serve and support this unique and dynamic ministry. This summer New Life’s workweek happened August 2-16. Last year our team put a much-needed new roof on the guesthouse and this year we renovated the guesthouse’s interior! To learn more, see Esperanza’s website.
